On Wednesday we had planned to hike Mount McLoughlin, but weather was not cooperating. Instead, five of us headed up to Mount Ashland and hiked from the PCT Grouse Gap to Long John Saddle.
We started seeing several PCT hikers. One of the first ones was wearing rabbit ears and had a great sense of humor. Shortly after that, we saw a large cache of soft drinks left in coolers for the PCT thru hikers. They must love that trail angel.
We made our way along the trail as it went up and down. When we got to Long John's Saddle, we went up into the shade to have our lunch. We commented on how many PCT thru hikers we had seen. My guess is somewhere between 25-28.
We headed back to our cars and kept our eyes on the clouds that had been forming. We were hoping to not have lightning or rain. We made it back and had hiked 9.38 miles and had 1,729 feet of gain because there was uphill on the way back.
