Ashland Hiking Home

On Wednesday we had 8 people come out to hike on the Wolf Gap trail to the Sterling Mine Ditch Trail to Demming Gulch.

When we started the hike, it was in the upper 30s and the sky was grey.  The beginning of the hike starts uphill to get you warmed up. We noticed the Siskiyou View trail that goes up to a viewpoint at 3,652 feet of elevation and thought it might be good to explore it at some point.  The trail goes along and starts downhill for quite a while .

We took a break for snacks when we reached the ditch trail. We continued on a fairly flat trail.  We noticed a lot of bear scat as we hiked and various other scat mostly full of manzanita berries. It was the scat super highway.

We took our lunch with views of the snow covered mountains.  After about half an hour, we continued on.

We made a decision that Hank, Liz and Bob were going to take the road down and the rest of us picked up our speed so we could meet them with the cars.  We made good time and picked them up and headed home.

We hiked 10 miles with 164 feet of elevation gain and 852 feet of elevation loss.
